electroCore&#8217;s proprietary first non-invasive, hand-held medical device, gammaCore, is approved for the prevention and treatment of cluster headache and migraine, and most recently, for the treatment of acute asthma exacerbations in known or suspected COVID-19 patients. Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) was granted for the treatment of asthma in known or suspected patients with gammaCore Sapphire non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation (nVNS) at home or in a healthcare setting based on preliminary data from two prospective studies.

Initial human clinical work was performed using a minimally invasive VNS delivered through a percutaneous electrode in four asthma patients. Forced expiratory volume in one second&nbsp;(FEV1), a measurement of ability to expel air from your lungs, was improved 73% over baseline at 90 min post-stimulation. The mean visual analog scale (VAS) dyspnea, a measure of shortness of breath, decreased from a score of 8 pre-stimulation to 1 at 90 min.

In the second study, 30 patients suffering from bronchoconstriction due to asthma were treated with nVNS alphaCore. Ninety three percent of patients had improvement in VAS dyspnea score, and 86% had improvements in FEV1.
Based on these findings, the FDA granted a EUA for gammaCore. We think this authorization provides a significantly expanded market opportunity for the company. We believe favorable safety and efficacy of gammaCore will prompt adoption in the market. The company is expected to provide additional details in the next few weeks regarding the distribution and pricing of gammaCore. In our view, this approval increased gammaCore market potential significantly. We are reiterating our Outperform rating and $4 price target.
